Pentagon Orders Bases to Survive 90 Days With No Civilian Grid: Why My 173-Like Threads Post Went Viral From Toraja

Summary: On Sept 30, 2026 Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced FORTRESS. On Oct 8, Grain Management announced it will sell its nationwide 800 MHz portfolio to SpaceX. I summarized both in one Threads post — and got 4 very different types of replies.

What FORTRESS Actually Says [Verified] Unveiled in Hegseth’s “State of the Force” address Sept 30 and detailed in internal docs reviewed by Fox News Digital Oct 25:

“We don’t want to rely on standard civilian municipal infrastructure to run our national defense. We just simply can’t. It’s an intolerable risk. Power is combat now.” — Sean Parnell, Pentagon Chief Spokesperson

The directive:

  • 90-day off-grid base survival: Every major CONUS installation must sustain mission-critical ops for 90 days without civilian power, water, fuel, comms
  • How: islanded microgrids, utility-scale batteries (BESS), solar/geothermal/gas, and portable nuclear micro-reactors under the Army’s $2.2B Janus Program
  • Scale: ~500 bases being assessed, no official cost/timeline yet. Press estimates tens to hundreds of billions.

This is not a “domestic war plan.” It is continuity of operations when the civilian grid fails.

The civilian gap is real: While Pentagon plans for 90 days, FEMA’s Ready.gov still tells households to stock just 72 hours.

What SpaceX Bought On Oct 8, Grain said SpaceX will acquire 100% of its nationwide 800 MHz spectrum portfolio, subject to FCC approval. The Wall Street Journal values it at ~$8B. It holds up to 14 MHz of paired low-band.

It is the old Nextel spectrum. Grain acquired it from T-Mobile on Aug 11, after FCC approval July 1, in exchange for cash and 600 MHz spectrum. Low-band travels far and penetrates walls, which is why SpaceX wants it for Starlink Mobile to reach indoors where direct satellite struggles.

On Oct 6-7, FCC also authorized SpaceX to deploy 15,000 satellites for direct-to-device.

Market impact Oct 9 premarket: AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile fell on the news, tower stocks rose.

The 4 Replies on My Thread — And Why They Happened

1. @larsony99: “So military having a plan… concerning to you?” Sarcasm template trending on Threads this week. My answer: Not concerning, it’s overdue. If bases need 90 days, why do families only get 72-hour guidance?

2. @prolificvision239: “Gov Said Stock Up fear mongering since last Christmas” Feed fatigue is real. The same week, the UK launched “Be Ready” Oct 22 telling households to prep 3 days. The algorithm pushed Pentagon 90-day and UK 3-day at once, so it looks coordinated.

3. @trav319: “Until Elon throws a hissy fit and shuts it off” The most valid concern — referencing the 2022 Crimea Starlink incident. Difference now: Under FORTRESS and SDA contracts, DoD controls provisioning with SLAs. It is no longer a personal switch. My two dishes in Sulawesi survived every X storm.

4. @itsabare: agencies spying, billionaires to prison, Mel Gibson, Abu Dhabi This shifts from verifiable filings to non-verifiable predictions. For EEAT, I separate: 14 MHz, $8B, Sept 30 are filings we can check. Prison predictions are not.

Why I Use Starlink in Toraja — First-Hand Test

  • Local fiber quote: $129k to pull 1.2km to our valley, dies when the power goes out.
  • Starlink Mini: $149 now (was $599), 15-min bamboo install, runs on battery + solar when grid is down.

Schrödinger’s Starlink is real: Telcos held 800 MHz for decades but never solved rural dead zones. A dish on bamboo did.

How to Try It Safely [Referral Disclosure] This is my personal referral link. If you use it you get:

  • Mini at $149 promo price
  • $100 credit back in month 2
  • 30-day trial, free return, no contract — if you think it will be shut off, you can return it for $0 loss

Official Starlink link with my referral: https://www.starlink.com/?referral=RC-DF-5378047-60374-52

If you order direct without a referral, you don’t get the $100 credit. Trial lets you test the “kill switch” theory risk-free.
