Richard Lewis, 76, a stand-up comedian and star of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” died at his home in Los Angeles on Tuesday night.

According to his publicist Jeff Abraham, Lewis died after a heart attack. In April, the actor revealed that he had been living with Parkinson’s disease.

Lewis’ wife Joyce Lapinsky, “thanks everyone for all the love and asks for privacy at this time.” Richard Lewis is co-starring in the final season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” by Larry David.

Lewis first tried his luck at stand-up in New York in the early 1970s, alongside the likes of George Carlin, Richard Pryor, and Andy Kaufman.

He later made a career of it when he was discovered by comedian David Brenner. The young Lewis made an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.”

He was recognized as a dark comic, figuratively and literally, known for his all-black getups. Lewis also frequently performed sets about his addictions and neuroses.

In 1979, Richard Lewis made his TV debut with “Diary of a Young Comic,” a movie that took the place of “Saturday Night Live.”

His popularity increased due to his continued late-night appearance during the ‘80s and ‘90s.
